History The Northern Peninsula Area of the Cape York  Region is full of history.   At Punsand Bay the remains of the Old Telegraph station, the Old Post Office and abandoned tin and gold mines.  Nearby is Cable Bay where the end of the overland telegraph line and it’s junction to the undersea cable to Thursday Island (via Cable Beach on Horn Island). Just to the north west of Punsand Bay is Possession Island,  this is where Captain Cook took possession of the east coast of Australia.  On Possession Island  their are ruins of an old pearling station and gold mine.  Fishing You can fish the two oceans as well as the Jardine and Jacky Jacky River systems with their swamps, everglades and lagoons. Common catches include barramundi, mangrove jack, tuna, queen fish, trevally, coral trout and mackeral.   We can book fishing tours with local Fishing Tour operators.    4WD Tours We can book 4WD scenic tours to the "Tip" of Cape York, Somerset and the Northern Peninsula Communities with local Scenic Tour Operators. Ferry Service - Dato’s Venture “MV Ada-Dan” Ferry MV Ada-Dan  operates between May - November  from Punsand Bay to Thursday Island/Horn Island and return.    Ferry will  connect with Thursday Island & Horn Island Bus tours or you can take a leisurely tour of Thursday Island in a local Taxi.  Passengers will have the opportunity to do some shopping on Thursday Island before returning to Punsand Bay. On your return journey MV Ada-Dan will cruise pass historical Possession Island.
